There are many days when kids and tweens are looking for something to entertain themselves. It may not always be productive to watch television or put in a movie for an entire afternoon. Also there are those days when children are unable to go outside and play due to the weather. Mom or dad may be too busy to drive them to entertainment venues or it may be too expensive to take them somewhere every weekend. Sometimes finding computer activities for kids is the best solution.

The great thing about playing online is that many of the games and activities are educational. There are several online games that kids can play for free. Many of the games allow children to play against other kids their age. If parents want a more educational experience for their kids they can pick out games that are more stimulating for their brains.

Social Networks have been around for the past several years and are only becoming more popular. Social networking sites are a great way for kids to express themselves, connect with friends, and learn about current events. Not all social media platforms are acceptable for young kids. There are many kids social networking sites that are meant for children under the age of 13. Parents need to research which websites their kids are using to make sure that they are monitored for inappropriate behavior.

A social networking site for kids may have the ability to instant message. This will allow kids to chat with friends or even connect with kids from around the world. Chat rooms are fun and entertaining as long as they are safe. Many instant messenger services can be used by anybody and kids can easily give out too much information. Kids social network sites may offer a chat room and these will be safer than using a chat room such as yahoo messenger or msn messenger.

One of my personal favorites for online activities for children is blogging. Blogs allow kids to express themselves, research topics, and post their interest or opinion on a topic. This is a great way for kids to feel important and express their knowledge. Many teachers are even starting to utilize blogs in assignments. By posting writing assignments online kids care more about what they are writing about if they know it can be read by anyone. This also gives other kids a chance to comment on their classmate’s article to state their opinion on the matter.
