World Book Day Fancy Dress Costumes

World Book Day 2012

As most Mums will probably already know, World Book Day is an annual event organised by UNESCO to celebrate books encouraging children to read more. The event is held on the 23rd of April in America and the 1st of March in the UK which is to fit in with the school holidays.

Many schools hold events to mark the occasion, one very popular way to celebrate is by holding a fancy dress day where Kids are encouraged to attend school dressed as their favourite character from fictional literature.  Mums will agree, the sight of your little one dressed up in a cute costume all in the spirit of education is a wonderful idea but picking out the perfect costume is a lot of hard work! Don’t fret though, in this blog post we’ll be looking at 3 ideas for World Book Day 2012.

Harry Potter or Hermione Granger

Though the films and books have come to an end, Harry is still huge in the memories of little boys and girls and characters from the franchise are very popular for emulating at a World Book Day event. The good news for Mums is that achieving the look of a Hogwarts student is very easy, due to the success of the series there is a huge range of officially licensed costumes available in most fancy dress stores.

Story Book Animals

The old classic story book tales are packed full of cute critters perfect for the occasion. You could dress your little boy or girl up like one of the 3 little pigs, like a bear from Goldilocks and the 3 bears or like a cute bunny, recreating the look of Beatrix Potter’s most famous character, Peter Rabbit.

Fairytale

Fairytale fancy dress costumes are great for World Book Day, what little girl doesn’t want to dress up like a fairy, a princess or a queen? They could recreate the rags to riches classic in a Cinderella costume, the simple but effective look of Snow White or even dress up as a the fairy god mother.

Like with buying anything for Kids, shopping online is normally an easier option, it means you don’t have the burden of shopping whilst trying to look after them, in the case of fancy dress costumes there tends to be a larger range available online and of course it will likely be much cheaper than in a shop. Just make sure you are buying from a reputable website before handing over your cash!

We hope you found this blog post useful and that you enjoy World Book Day 2012!
