Make Your Home a Haven

Ever feel like the press of humanity is about to step in on your last nerve? From dealing with customers to navigating the challenges of parenthood, life’s stresses can add up until you become short-tempered or worse, ill. In today’s fast-paced world it is now more important than ever to seek out little retreats of peacefulness throughout your work week. Yet many let the idea of creating an oasis fall by the wayside because they fear it will take too much time or cost too much money to turn into a reality. But the following tips are both effective and affordable ways to create your own pockets of Zen.

Kick out the clutter.

Having too much stuff and too little room for it can be a major stress inducer. If you spend every morning looking for your keys or have to move multiple items to get to what you actually need then it’s a good sign you need to pare down in your home, your office and in your vehicle. “A place for everything and everything in its place” is the perfect mantra for creating your personal oasis. Also, if it’s in need of repair either fix it or pitch it, and if it’s something you never use or wear then do the same. Things take up space, require shelter and care and take up energy that could be reserved for letting good things come into your life.

Color therapy.

The study of colors and their effects on humans is called chromotherapy, but you don’t need to be a specialist or even do any homework to use colors to your advantage. Simply surround yourself with specific colors and see how they make you feel; if orange makes you feel energized and alert then it makes sense to keep it out of the bedroom, but if blues makes you sleepy then it would probably be best to keep them out of your office. Though the studies have been extensive there is no tried-and-true/ right or wrong answer to color therapy; use colors to soothe when needed or stimulate, conversely.

Dedicate a space to relaxation.

This could mean any number of things to different readers. Maybe that entails turning your bathroom into a garden oasis or creating an ocean theme in your guest room, the point is to dedicate a space dedicated to letting your stress fall away. And when adding Zen to your rooms don’t forget to look after your vehicle too.

In addition to making your own private world a peaceful one don’t forget to frequent places that make you feel good, whether having a picnic in a public park, working a weekly massage into your budget or visiting your local museums; whatever it takes to keep the stressors at bay are, without question, a beneficial use of your time and hard-earned cash.
