New Year’s celebrations in India are often marred by crazy male groups who would tease or even in extreme cases rape women revelers. The beginning of 2012 was no different from the previous years. In New Delhi, where a study on safety for women shows that the gender is the least face in among all the cities in the country, a group of men started chasing a lady and her male friends along the busy and crowded street. However, luck and Delhi Police came to the help of the couple. The policemen on duty rushed in to rescue the lady and her friends.

The incident in New Delhi shows that the Indian male particularly in North India has not been very respectful towards women. As a women, I’m still worried about going out after sun sets. Even mothers are concerned about their daughters going out in the night. Are women to be blamed for going out at night? The answer is no and as a member of Mothersforum.org I appeal to all men to shun such attitude and educate your fellow men.

Also, to my American and European friends who are reading this, please take care when you come to India.

The video of the incident released has lots of praise for Delhi Police who are still considered soft to hooligans. I’m not sure whether the culprits have been arrested, but comments on YouTube states that no one was arrested!
