Laundry, Meatloaf and College

Being a stay at home mom does not mean you are at a point in life where you can’t further your education.  After doing the laundry, fixing supper, bathing the kids and bedtime stories it is often hard to take on the extra task of studying. In today’s job market, it is important to have a solid education to become more marketable to employers. If you are planning to return to school and change careers, or even begin your first professional career, it is important to find the time to study. Here are a few ideas on how to further your education while managing your family.

Between Chores:

Turn on the dishwasher, throw the clothes in the dryer and you have at least an hour for study. Throw a meatloaf in the oven and study while it bakes. There are many small amounts of downtime during chores where you can study.

Sleepovers:

Parents usually look forward to the times when their children are away on a sleep over. We use it as a way to recharge and take a break from constant family management. If you are studying to further your education, you can use those times to engulf yourself in uninterrupted study.

Early Mornings and Late Nights:

As parents we often wake before our children do in order to prepare for them waking up. By waking an hour earlier than usual, you can get some study time in before you have to run around finding lost shoes, making lunches, and driving the kids to school. This will give you an extra 5 hours of study time through the week.

After the kids are down for the night, we often use the time to watch TV or do what we want before we go to bed. This is a good time to study and work on assignments. With the house quiet, chores done, and kids sleeping, you can accomplish a lot more than you could during the day.

Study Online:

Online schools offer the best opportunity for you to be there for your family and take classes at your leisure. Many mothers are using online schools as an alternative to conventional campuses. The reason for this is the lower cost and flexible schedule. It may take longer but the benefits are great.

Online schools have become a part of our future. With overcrowding they offer a way to ease classroom size and allow more students to attend. There are teachers available to talk with you online or by phone whenever you need help.

The costs are reduced dramatically by not having travel expenses. Weather will not be an inconvenience. Cold outside- Not for you, hot cocoa and cookies while writing a term paper.  You won’t need a babysitter either. Just a few hours a day can make your lifetime richer.

Be sure to research schools to make an informative decision. Accreditation is very important also. You don’t want to have extra expenses so check what is included such as books, tools or learning aids. This can be an exciting and rewarding time for you while you remain an important part of your family.

Whether you are just starting out or you are furthering your education, find the time to study while tending to your family obligations. In the past we were forced to choose education or children. Thanks to technology, time management and your desire to learn, you can have the best of both worlds.
