Bringing up children is similar to training puppies. How cute is that little pup when you get him home and how soon he turns into an unruly dog. You must think of your new born in the same light. As soon as the baby comes home the training begins as it is surprising how quickly the new parents find their lives been ruled by a little dictator. Well how should you begin?
1. Putting Your Baby To Sleep
First of all let the baby cry for short periods, there is no need to pick up immediately and when the baby is in a routine then bed time is bedtime. Let the baby fuss a little and eventually he/she will go to sleep. Do not under any circumstances relent and pick baby up again as it will soon be a pattern that you will find impossible to break. If baby has been fed, changed and there is nothing obviously wrong then let him/her fuss for a little while and eventually sleep will come.
2. Enjoy The Early Days Of Feeding
Food is another bone of contention which soon sets in with small babies and then becomes a bone of contention though out childhood… The new baby is always hungry and when first weaning onto solids the baby is like a little bird with its beak constantly open. The new parent thinks there is nothing to the process. Just when complacency sets in the trouble starts. Baby loses interest and does not seem to eat as much as it did – this is because if baby continued to eat at this rate it would soon be huge.
3. Using A High Chair (Or Familiar Setting) To Define Meal Times
Parents fuss and soon mealtimes become a battle. Remember no baby will starve itself. I cannot stress enough that you must start off by always feeding baby in the highchair. This will then be associated with food. The best highchairs in the UK are found at Mothercare: www.mothercare.com Choose a highchair that converts into low chair and table for when baby gets older.
4. Don’t Fall Into The Trap Of Making Meal Times Anything But A Pleasure
When baby has had enough to eat do not try and coax those extra spoonful’s in. Take baby down form the high chair and whatever you do please do not make a fuss no matter how annoyed you are at the waste. Eating should be a pleasure not a chore and baby as well as the parent should enjoy mealtimes.
5. Babies Enjoy Variety Too!
Give baby a variety of foods. Under no circumstances continue to force a food on a baby. If baby does not like a food it does not matter. You never want to get into the situation whereby you force a child to sit at table and insist that all the food is eaten. Would you like to sit in front of a congealed meal and not be allowed to move. Well neither does your offspring.
6. There Are Healthy Options – Even In Today’s Stores
Do try to watch what baby eats as today food is full of chemicals and preservatives. Look for organic baby foods at www.organix.com. They offer a variety of foods for your baby at competitive prices. You know that your baby is getting the best! Happy child rearing!!
