10 tips for single mums trying online dating

Since online dating sites first appeared in 1995, their popularity has grown. Today they are used by more than 5 million people in the UK. It’s an easy, fast and flexible way to meet someone. However, if you’re a single mum looking to start dating again, it can be a scary prospect. Below are a few tips on how to make sure your online dating experience is successful.

1. Keep an open mind

Millions of people have found their true love online, but it’s important to be realistic with your expectations. Do not worry if you don’t find your perfect match straight away. Online dating can be a great way to flirt, have fun, and make new friends, while you search for that special someone.

2. Choose a site wisely

There are quite a few online dating sites to choose from, so it’s important to find the right one for you. Some are niche, others are more general; some have monthly fees, others like the Jazzed free dating don’t cost a penny. Finding the site that best suits your personality will help your chances of making a successful match.

3. Create an interesting profile

It’s important to make sure that your profile stands out by encapsulating what makes you unique. Keep it lively and fun, by including hobbies and interests that will attract other like-minded singles.

4. Post a unique picture

The first thing that will grab someone’s attention when they see your profile is your picture. Make sure it’s recent and that you look happy and approachable. Try including something a bit different that will make you stand out, for example, posting a picture of you doing something adventurous or unusual.

5. Keep it safe

It’s really important to keep your online dating experience safe. Don’t give out too much personal information and always meet in a public place for the first date.

6. Be attentive when you communicate

Your first email to someone you’re interested in is of utmost importance. Make sure you personalise it and spend plenty of time asking questions based around the information on their profile.

7. Always be honest

Honesty is always the best policy. Keep photos recent and don’t lie about your age, job or income. Good relationships are based on trust and any lies you tell early on may come back to haunt you.

8. Make the first date memorable

Successfully getting a date is only the beginning; the actual date is when the other person gets that all important first impression of you. Keep the first date casual by meeting in the day for a coffee or lunch, or heading to a bar for drink. But make it personal by going somewhere a bit quirky or by sharing one of your favourite places.

9. Prepare things to talk about

If you’re nervous about your date and want to boost your confidence, prepare some topics of conversation in advance. Read back over the other person’s profile to give you an idea of what question to ask and what anecdotes and subjects will be of interest.

10. Stick with it

Not every first date is going to be fantastic. Don’t get down and give up if it doesn’t work out straight away. The beauty of online dating is that it allows you to meet a lot of people, so stick with it and you’re bound to find your match.

If you’re a single mum with a hectic lifestyle, online dating is a great way to meet new people on your own terms. As long as you are realistic in your expectations, and honest in any information you give out, online dating can be a great way to meet someone special.
